What sizes do you make?

XS to 5XL on all nine garments, each size drafted on its own block rather than graded up from a small. Trousers come in two lengths at no extra cost. If none of the nine fits you properly, made-to-measure on any of them is a hundred and forty dollars more.

Where is it sewn?

Accepted Answer

In the room behind the shop on Mississippi Avenue, by four people whose names are on the wall. The cloth is woven elsewhere — Japan, Portugal, Italy, the UK, and the US — and each garment says which on its page.

What does the cost breakdown mean?

For the work shirt at a hundred and forty-eight dollars: thirty-four on cloth, seven on trims, forty-two on cutting and sewing, six on pattern, twenty-one on rent and machines, nineteen on wages other than sewing, and nineteen left over. That last number is the business, and it is on the site because it is the number everybody assumes is far larger.

Can you alter something for me?

Yes, and for the first year after you buy it, free. Sleeves, hems, and waist are the common ones. After a year they are priced, and they are cheap, and we would rather adjust a garment than have you stop wearing it.

What happens when a fabric runs out?

Accepted Answer

The page says so, and says when it is being cut again. We do not substitute a similar cloth quietly, which is normal in this trade and is how a garment you loved becomes one you do not. There is a list you can join and it is a list, not a marketing email.

Question 6

Do you repair?

Accepted Answer

Yes, anything we made, for as long as it exists. Seams and buttons are free. A new elbow or a new pocket bag is priced at cost. Send it or bring it — we are not precious about how worn it is.
