Rules change, there are medical exemptions, and a tint shop is not a legal authority. What follows is our working understanding and it is illustrative.

The AS-1 line
A small mark near the top of your windshield, usually at the edge. Tint above it is a strip; tint below it is not permitted at all except with an exemption.
Medical exemptions
They exist, they are real, and they need paperwork from a physician carried in the vehicle. We will fit to an exemption when we have seen it.
Why we hold the line
A ticket costs you more than the tint did, and darker glass beside a driver is a real risk at a junction at night. We would rather lose the job.
Where to check
The state's own published rules, not a tint forum and not a shop. Any shop happy to fit 5 percent on your driver's window is telling you something about the rest of their work.
